Signal Newsroom takes accuracy seriously.

News develops quickly, and mistakes can sometimes occur. What matters is that significant errors are identified, investigated and corrected responsibly.

How to Report a Possible Error

Readers can report a potential error by contacting:

Please include:

  • The article title

  • The article link

  • The statement you believe is incorrect

  • The correct information

  • A credible source supporting the correction

Where possible, please provide the original document, official statement or primary source.

What Happens After a Report

A correction request does not automatically mean that an article is wrong.

Our editorial team may review:

  • The published article

  • The source material

  • Official records

  • Other relevant evidence

  • The circumstances in which the information was originally reported

If we confirm a significant factual error, we will correct it.

Minor Errors

Minor typographical, spelling, formatting or grammatical errors may be corrected without a formal correction notice when they do not change the meaning of the article.

Significant Errors

A significant factual error may result in:

  • A correction to the article

  • An explanatory correction note

  • An updated article

  • A correction to the headline where necessary

  • A retraction where the underlying report cannot reasonably stand

The response will depend on the seriousness and nature of the mistake.

Corrections and Publication Dates

We will not deliberately change an old article's original publication date simply to make it appear to be new.

Where substantial new information changes the story, we may add an update notice or other appropriate indication.

Retractions

In exceptional circumstances, an article may be retracted if its central claims cannot be supported or if publication was fundamentally inappropriate.

Information about jobs, scholarships, recruitment, grants, loans and other opportunities can change quickly.

If an important deadline, eligibility requirement, official link or other material detail changes, we may update the article and identify the change where appropriate.
